Evaluating Websites

1.Today we are going to evaluate a few websites. Before we begin, let's discuss a few questions.
  • What makes a good web site?
  • How do you choose good web sites for projects?
2. Now take a look at these sites and answer questions about the animals.
Jackalopes
**Before given the name Jackalope, what was this animal commonly known as?
**What is the average lifespan of a Northern Spotted Owl?
Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
**What is the scientific name for the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus?
Gray Wolf
**What is a wolf pack?
3. Now that you have completed the web search, discuss the following:
  • Would you include information from these web sites in your project? Why or why not?
  • What did you like about these sites?  What did you not like?
  • Did you find the web sites believable? Yes? No?
  • Are the information sources truth worthy? How do you know?
  • Did the pictures make the information seem more believable?
  • Did you ask yourself... Does this make sense?
  • If something is on the Internet does that mean it is true and accurate?
  • Who wrote/published the information on the site?
  • What are the author's credentials?
  • Who is sponsoring publication of the site?
4. What did you learn from this lesson about evaluating websites?
